Our climate projects

Real projects.
Measurable impact.

Every Green Circle program is backed by certified global climate projects. Here is exactly where your contribution goes — and how each project is independently verified to internationally recognised standards.

How we select projects

Not all projects
are equal.

The voluntary carbon market has a credibility problem — too many projects with weak verification, inflated impact claims, and poor additionality. Green Circle only works with projects certified to Gold Standard or Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) — the two most rigorous internationally recognised frameworks.

We consolidate all customer contributions and offset collectively once per year during Q1. This allows us to support larger, higher-impact projects rather than many small fragmented ones — delivering stronger environmental results and better value for every customer.

Our portfolio spans hydropower, wind energy, solar, biomass, rainforest protection, and nature-based solutions — geographically diversified across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe. We continuously evaluate new projects and add them to the portfolio as they meet our criteria.

Our project selection criteria
Certified to Gold Standard or Verra VCSIndependent third-party verification of every tonne of CO₂ reduced or removed.
Additionality confirmedThe project would not have happened without climate finance — meaning your contribution creates real, additional impact.
Permanence and monitoringOngoing monitoring to ensure reductions are real and permanent — not reversed by deforestation or project failure.
Co-benefits for local communitiesProjects that also deliver biodiversity, employment, and development benefits — not just carbon numbers.
Geographic diversificationPortfolio spread across multiple continents and project types — reducing concentration risk.
The project portfolio

Where your contribution
goes to work.

Green Circle supports a diversified portfolio of certified projects across five categories. Every project is independently verified and contributes to measurable reductions in global CO₂ emissions.

Hydropower
Hydropower Gold Standard

Run-of-river hydropower

Asia & Latin America

Small-scale run-of-river hydropower plants generate clean electricity for local communities without large reservoir construction. These projects displace fossil fuel power generation and deliver reliable, renewable energy with minimal environmental footprint.

Primary impact
Clean energy generation — displacing coal and diesel power
Rainforest protection
Forest Protection Verra VCS

Tropical rainforest conservation

Latin America & Southeast Asia

REDD+ projects that protect standing tropical forests from deforestation and degradation. By preserving these ecosystems, enormous quantities of stored carbon are prevented from entering the atmosphere — while also protecting biodiversity and supporting indigenous communities.

Primary impact
Avoided deforestation — protecting stored carbon and biodiversity
Wind energy
Wind Energy Gold Standard

Onshore wind energy

Asia, Africa & Europe

Large-scale onshore wind farms providing clean electricity to national grids in developing and emerging economies. Each megawatt-hour of wind energy displaces fossil fuel generation — with Gold Standard certification confirming the real, additional carbon reduction.

Primary impact
Renewable electricity — replacing fossil fuel grid generation
Solar energy
Solar Energy Verra VCS

Utility-scale solar power

Middle East, Africa & Asia

Large utility-scale solar installations delivering clean electricity to regions with high solar irradiance and significant reliance on fossil fuels. These projects address energy access and climate impact simultaneously — providing reliable power while reducing grid emissions at scale. Verra VCS certification confirms the verified carbon reduction of every project.

Primary impact
Clean solar electricity — displacing diesel and coal generation
Nature-based solutions
Nature-Based Gold Standard

Nature-based carbon removal

Africa, Latin America & Asia Pacific

Reforestation, agroforestry, and ecosystem restoration projects that actively remove CO₂ from the atmosphere while rebuilding degraded landscapes. These nature-based solutions deliver some of the highest co-benefits of any project type — biodiversity, watershed protection, soil health, and community livelihoods — all verified to Gold Standard.

Primary impact
Active carbon removal — reforestation and ecosystem restoration
Certification standards

Two standards.
Both world-class.

Green Circle only uses projects certified to Gold Standard or Verra VCS — the two most rigorous and widely recognised standards in the voluntary carbon market. Here is what each one means.

Gold Standard

Gold Standard for the Global Goals

Founded by WWF and other leading NGOs, Gold Standard is widely regarded as the most stringent certification for voluntary carbon projects. It requires projects to demonstrate real, measurable, permanent, and additional climate impact — as well as contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Founded by WWF and a coalition of leading environmental NGOs
Requires contribution to multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals
Independent verification by accredited third-party auditors
Public registry — every certified tonne is traceable and retired
Verra VCS

Verra Verified Carbon Standard

The Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) by Verra is the world's most widely used voluntary carbon crediting program. It sets strict requirements for project design, monitoring, reporting and verification — ensuring every carbon credit represents a real and measurable tonne of CO₂ reduced or removed.

World's most used voluntary carbon crediting program
Strict MRV requirements — monitoring, reporting and verification at every stage
Covers all major project types including REDD+, renewable energy, and nature-based solutions
Public Verra Registry — all credits are issued, tracked, and retired transparently

How collective offsetting works: Green Circle consolidates all customer contributions and offsets collectively once per year during Q1. This pooled approach allows us to support larger, higher-quality certified projects that deliver stronger impact per tonne than smaller fragmented purchases — while keeping costs accessible for SMEs.
