The Vaayu India Wind Power Project is a grid-connected wind energy installation in Andhra Pradesh, one of India's windiest states. The project harnesses the region's strong and consistent wind resources to generate clean electricity that is fed directly into the national grid.

What the project does

The facility consists of multiple wind turbines generating clean electricity from wind — a zero-emission energy source. The electricity produced displaces fossil fuel-based power that would otherwise be used to meet India's growing electricity demand.

The project is independently verified under the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), ensuring all CO₂ reductions are real, measurable, and additional — meaning the project would not have been financially viable without carbon finance.

Why it matters

India's electricity grid is among the world's most carbon-intensive. Wind power projects like Vaayu directly displace coal and natural gas generation, reducing CO₂ at scale. Andhra Pradesh's coastal and inland wind corridors provide ideal conditions for consistent, high-capacity generation.
